Private-label nutraceutical launch checklist

Plan a nutraceutical manufacturing brief around the audience, ingredients, serving, pack, target market and commercial assumptions.

Make the brand brief specific

State the intended customer, sales channel, launch market and target price band. A product for an online consumer brand can have different pack, serving and presentation needs from a product intended for a pharmacy channel. These choices guide feasibility; they do not establish that an ingredient or claim is permitted.

  • Name the proposed ingredients, their forms and amounts per serving.
  • State the number of units or quantity per serving and servings per pack.
  • Choose the preferred format: tablet, capsule, softgel, liquid, drops, powder or another format for review.
  • Identify dietary preferences, allergens or ingredient exclusions as requirements to verify.
  • Separate launch quantity, reorder assumptions and annual forecast.

Agree what private label includes

Ask whether the project uses a proposed existing formula, a customer-owned formula or new development. Agree who is responsible for ingredient selection, technical review, claims assessment, artwork and market-specific requirements. Formula ownership, exclusivity and rights to use supporting material must be confirmed in the agreement.

Review the formula and pack together

  • Ingredient form, compatibility and the chosen manufacturing process.
  • Taste, serving size and dispersibility where relevant to the format.
  • Container barrier, closure, measuring device and how the pack will be used.
  • Test specification, stability plan and evidence needed for the proposed shelf life.
  • Label and claims review for the intended country and product category.

Avoid committing to artwork too early

Give the technical and regulatory reviewers the complete formula, intended use, serving and proposed claims before printing packaging. A catalogue concept or wellness category does not establish permission to make a disease-treatment claim. For India, consult the applicable FSSAI regulations and current official directions with the responsible regulatory team.

Prepare a commercially useful enquiry

Share the composition or concept, dosage form, pack size, target market, initial quantity and launch window. Ask Walter to identify the feasible scope, open questions, MOQ, material minimums, testing, development costs and the prerequisites for a confirmed production schedule. Treat proposed dates and shelf life as items for review until supported and agreed.
